We are in the middle of preparations for a major renovation of our site, which will allow us provide access to a higher level course (NQF level 6) and therefore double the number of young people we train. It will supply a meeting point for performing arts professionals, students and community members, as well as help NATA improve financial sustainability through income generating activities. The new building has been designed to have a minimal environmental impact, using maximum natural lighting, solar heating, and waterwise landscaping. Recycled materials will be used as far as possible.
The buildings will include:
- - Three purpose-built studios for teaching and rehearsal - an increase of one studio as well as increased functionality.
- - A theatre venue with flexible seating for 120 people – an increase of 50 seats and the possibility of staging plays in the round or with a traverse - stage as well as the present ‘traditional’ seating arrangement.
- - A coffee shop in the foyer of the theatre. A workshop where students can learn and practically apply technical and set-building skills.
- - A Resource Centre for students and members to access web-based and paper-based information.
